Elizabethtown was located on the northern side of Elizabeth Creek located on the southwestern part of the Shamblen survey in Denton, Texas. This tow derived its name from the Creek. The area was first settled in 1850 by the Peters colony. This made the area to serve as the supply center for cowboys who were heading north to Kansas with their herds.
Elizabethtown has remained to be a ghost city of Texas with only the cemetery in use. The residents by then had moved to their nearby towns with their businesses. It participated last in tax in the year 1880. Residents moved following the building of the Texas and Pacific railway that did not quite pass through it. The railway was built in 1881 and passed about 2 miles away. Most of them moved to Roanoke town.
